Beans are the dried, ripe, starchy seeds extracted from the pods that grow on leguminous plants. Beans have the shape of an elongated pod whose interior holds between four and six seeds, the actual legume used for consumption. These can be of various colors, shapes and sizes, generally kidney-shaped or rounded, and smooth-skinned when fresh.
